Already in the cast is Liam Hemsworth, playing a member of the local cool crowd, an awesome beach volleyball player with Ivy League dreams.
Shooting kicked off this Monday in Georgia under the helm of Julie Anne Robinson.
20th Century Fox is moving forward with yet another “Donnie Darko” sequel, though this time Richard Kelly might be back reports Bloody-Disgusting.
Kelly penned and directed the 2001 cult classic starring Jake Gyllenhaal but was notably not involved in the low-budget direct-to-DVD sequel “S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale”. That film, starring only one of the minor characters from the original, was released last month.
The site suggests Kelly might actually be involved on some level but details are early so there’s no word as yet on what the story will be.
James Bond’s nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofield, may be making a comeback according to the less than reliable British tabloids.
The Guardian reports that “Frost/Nixon” and “The Queen” star Michael Sheen is in negotiations to portray the villain in the next James Bond feature, a great choice and excellent casting if true.
Last week it was reported that scribe Peter Morgan, who wrote those two aforementioned Sheen films along with “The Last King of Scotland”, has come onboard to co-write the script. This re-teaming sounds great but there’s a catch that could go either way – the report also claims Sheen’s role will be none other than that of Blofeld himself.
The last two Bond films starring Daniel Craig have used the shadowy organization Quantum as the antagonist, though has not heavily looked into its structure – leaving the idea of a Blofeld-like evil head running the show a likely future storyline.
The head of the criminal organisation SPECTRE which served as the chief antagonist during the Sean Connery-era of the franchise, Blofeld appeared initially in 1963’s “From Russia with Love” and 1965’s “Thunderball” shown only as a shadowy figure with a white Persian cat.
Donald Pleasance was the first to show his face in the role in 1967’s “You Only Live Twice”, a bald criminal genius with a facial scar – that appearance in ‘Twice’ served as the basis for Mike Myers’ Dr. Evil character in the “Austin Powers” films.
Telly Savalas and Charles Grey later played the character, as did Max von Sydow in the non-canon film “Never Say Never Again”. Due to the drawn-out rights dispute with “Thunderball” scribe Kevin McClory, the franchise dropped any use of SPECTRE or Blofeld after 1971’s “Diamonds are Forever”.
The character himself did appear again (albeit only from behind and not called by name) in the opening sequence of 1981’s “For Your Eyes Only” where he was dropped down a giant chimney stack.
Universal and Imagine are developing a remake of the monster classic “Bride of Frankenstein” says The Risky Biz Blog
Elsa Lanchester starred as the titular bride in James Whale’s 1935 feature which follows on from the classic 1931 “Frankenstein”. In ‘Bride’, a chastened Henry Frankenstein abandons his plans to create life, only to be tempted and finally coerced by the Monster, encouraged by Henry’s old mentor Dr Pretorius, into constructing a mate for him.
The Bride rejects the Monster however, resulting in her death, that of Pretorius, and apparently the Monster’s own death, when he destroys Henry’s laboratory.
“The Illusionist” filmmaker Neil Burger will direct and co-write the script with Dirk Wittenborn. Brian Grazer and Sean Daniel will produce.
Oscar winner Sean Penn has dropped out of two upcoming projects and won’t work for a year due to personal reasons says The Hollywood Reporter.
As a result, he will not be a part of MGM’s “The Three Stooges” and Universal/Imagine’s “Cartel”. Asger Leth directs the later which is already moving ahead and will recast Penn’s role.
The ‘Stooges’ movie on the other hand is a trickier prospect. Peter and Bobby Farrelly have spent years trying to get the project going and Penn’s casting alongside Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro was seen as a major coup.
With filming scheduled to begin in August, the pair have to soon decide whether to wait for Penn (and risk losing the other two stars) or find someone else to replace him. Shooting is still slated to begin in August.
Penn completed work on Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” and Doug Liman’s “Fair Game” before this announcement.
Jason Sudeikis (SNL, “30 Rock”) is set to join the cast of the romantic comedy “Bounty Hunter” for Sony Pictures says Reuters.
The story centers on Milo (Gerard Butler), a bounty hunter hired to track down his ex-wife, Casidy (Jennifer Aniston), who has skipped out on bail.
Sudeikis will play Stewart, a work friend of Casidy’s who falsely believes he is her boyfriend and takes off after her when she goes on the run.
Andy Tennant (”Fool’s Gold”) is directing a script by Sarah Thorp (”Twisted”). Filming is currently underway.
Lauren Conrad was seen arriving to Los Angeles International Airport today (June 17) carrying a Chanel purse and lugging two large suitcases.
The former Hills starlet is currently on a 10-city book tour pimping her first foray into literature, L.A. Candy.
Some poor soul at Entertainment Weekly was forced to review L.C.’s first novel and let’s just say the fictional tale of a girl who moves to L.A. and joins an elite group of dilettantes and debutants leaves a lot to be desired.
A highlight:
Is there nothing LC can’t do? Well, uh, yes. Write a ”novel.” Authors need to be judged as writers, not as multitasking buzz generators — even if the person in question is a blithe It Girl known for remarks like ”Shoes make me happy” and ”I don’t feel girly without long hair.”
[The book] is a dismal portent of the future of pop culture, disguised as escapist fiction aimed at young-adult LC fans who might like a bookshaped object as a keepsake now that Conrad has left her popular show.
