Universal Pictures has won the film rights to the classic 1979 video game “Asteroids” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The game featured a spaceship that had to shoot down incoming asteroids to avoid collision, that’s about it which means there’s no backstory and a lot of creative freedom for Matthew Lopez who is adapting the script.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. No other names or schedule dates have yet been set.
Piper Perabo has landed the lead role in the spy thriller “Covert Affairs” for USA Network says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story centers on Annie Walker (Perabo), a CIA trainee who speaks six languages and excels at any endeavor she undertakes.
Walker joins the CIA while still reeling over a mysterious ex-boyfriend who appears to be of particular interest to her new bosses.
She vows never to let herself be hurt again, but that proves to be a tall order. Matt Corman and Chris Ord penned the script.

Taking Woodstock The Ang Lee-directed ode to the legendary festival has been delayed from August 14th, which would have been the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, to August 28th.
Shanghai The Mikael Hafstrom-directed period drama starring John Cusack and Ken Watanabe has been moved from September 4th 2009 to an undetermined date.
Hard 10 The Paramount feature has been scheduled for March 12th 2010. Hardly anything is know about it, with no listings on imdb.com or Dark Horizons.
Season of the Witch The Dominic Sena-directed medieval thriller starring Nicholas Cage and Ron Perlman has been scheduled for March 19th 2010, a similar date to Cage’s recent mid-level hit Knowing.
Grown Ups The all-star ensemble comedy starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, and Norm McDonald has been upgraded from a March 12th 2010 release to a summer release, now coming out June 25th 2010.
The Green Hornet The Michel Gondry-directed action adaptation starring Seth Rogen has been delayed two weeks from June 25th 2010 to July 9th against Robert Rodriguez’s Predators and Despicable Me to make room for Grown Ups.
Dinner for Schmucks The Jay Roach-directed remake starring Steve Carrel and Paul Rudd has been scheduled for July 23rd 2010 as counter-programming against Columbia’s Salt.
Resident Evil: Afterlife The long-rumored fourth feature in the video game franchise, which will shift the story to Tokyo, has been scheduled by Screen Gems for September 17th 2010. Whether Milla Jojovich will return for the film remains to be seen.
Rapper The Game (”Street Kings,” “Waist Deep”) is the frontrunner to play B.A. Baracus in Joe Carnahan’s “The A-Team” remake at 20th Century Fox says Blackfilm.
The Game would join Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper have already been cast as John ‘Hannibal’ Smith and Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck. The Baracus role was originally played by Mr. T on the 80’s TV show.
A June 11th 2010 release is planned.
Christian Slater will replace former “Spooks” star Rupert Penry-Jones in the lead role of ABC’s new Bruckheimer-produced series “The Forgotten” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The mystery drama revolves around a group of amateur detectives led by a former cop (Slater) whose 11-year-old daughter was kidnapped three years before.
Brit Penry-Jones played the lead in the original shot pilot, he and a female castmember are being recast for a new version to begin filming shortly.
‘Forgotten’ premieres 10pm Tuesdays starting September 22nd.

It now appears that the singer was breaking the law by picking up a pen because she’s not a licensed tattoo artist and could be hit with three misdemeanors.
The NYC Health Department plans to investigate.
